MY BLOG Post New Entry

And so the year begins...

Posted by Fiona on January 11, 2013 at 12:55 PM

I’m back in the thick of it – school runs, homework, Kung Fu, ballet, music practice, exams, birthday parties – oh yes, the holidays are well and truly over for this mother of four! But with the return to schools and universities comes with it a sense of structure, a routine for me that actually makes it easier to write and bake (my favourite things….). So this week was all about getting organized and next week, the plans will swing into action....

(A jar of our crystallised Spring honey - magical!)

With only a week of the new term under her belt, Ellie has already picked up a sore throat. Never have I been so glad to have our own honey. Thankfully we are rarely ill in this house, and the honey worked it’s magic almost instantly. Have a look at this Honey post to see how I used it.

I’ve had lots of emails from people this week with all sorts of dilemmas – fox attacks, growing spuds, how to get a pig herd number, nothing unusual for this time of year.   My plan for 2013 is to create a post in the Forums section for the most common queries so the answers are there for everyone to see.  If you're worried about fox attacks at the moment, click HERE for my top tips.

(This lady would be very appetizing to the local fox population)

I’ve been busy in the Photos section too after a  quick visit to the fabulous Tea & Coffee World in Carlow.  I can’t wait to return when I have more time – their selection of teas and coffees is excellent. I settled on 50g of Seven Samurai green tea and 50g of Lapacho tea to keep me going until my next visit.

Don’t forget to tune in to CRKC88.7fm tomorrow morning 8am-9am (and every Saturday morning) if you are in the Kilkenny area. If you’re further afield and usually listen online listen up! I made a great discovery during the week with an App for my phone called TuneIn.  Download it to your Iphone/Android and search for Community Radio Kilkenny City - it's that simple.   I promise to get your Saturday off to a great start wherever you are in the world ( our Twitter handle for the show is @BreaksfastShowKK) so do join me.

In the meantime, we're putting our own garlic and parsley to good use here to stave off any colds, in the form of homemade garlic butter - perfect for that ribeye from your local butcher..

 Have a good weekend x

I wholeheartedly agree Kara. Honey truly is a super food. A pot of honey that came 2nd in a local honey show recently actually came 1st twenty-nine years ago. Can you believe it!!

I am slightly envious looking at the photos but particularly of the honey. It has such great healing powers in particular for hay fever. I always try to buy local honey but not always possible.
