Hunters Lodge Living

Food From An Irish Garden

MY BLOG Post New Entry

From Blog To Book.....

Posted by Fiona on February 1, 2013 at 1:00 PM

It’s official folks. I am delighted to confirm that my first book will be published later this year. I guess the ultimate compliment for a blogger is to get a call from a publishing house asking them if they would like to write a book based on their blog. When I got that very call just before Christmas, it really was the last thing I was expecting. Of course I’d love to write a book. But did I not have to send out tonnes of manuscripts all over the country hoping that some day, someone would like the idea of a starter self-sufficiency book? A lifestyle book about how we live with very traditional food values here at Hunters Lodge. Growing, rearing , baking - you know, like Ireland in a bygone era, but with the help of modern appliances! For the past two years I suppose my blog has been the equivalent of a manuscript – out there for everyone to see. And that’s what the folks in Orpen Press saw. I’m so delighted to have signed with them and my first book will be on shelves before Christmas this year.

It is so exciting and I’d love to take myself away to a desert island for a month to write this book but there’s the small matter of a husband, four children, hens, ducks, geese, pigs, bees…… so I shall become the Queen of time-management over the next few months and just get on with it.

I think this piece recorded by RTE’s Ear To The Ground, gives a good idea of what my book will be like…

In order to finish my book, classes will be commencing later this year at Hunters Lodge. I’ll post some dates over the next few weeks.

In the meantime, I shall be very very busy…..

I'm so proud of you, I could burst! I miss my beautifully fresh farm eggs and our natters on Dublin Street (but not much else about The Job From Hell). You're going to create the most wonderful book
